When a customer checks out, their cart information is sent to the CartBob app and it returns what you should charge for shipping. The benefit of carrier-calculated shipping rates is that you can pass on the actual cost of shipping directly to the customer for both international and domestic addresses.

CartBob pushes an estimated rate and the final shipping cost may vary.

Select the preview below to watch a short video explaining in detail how to set up the CartBob application.

Step 1 : Setup your products page

  • Make sure your products are synced and cubiscanned

  • Ensure each product has the correct packaging preference set

  • Any duplicate product listings (created from different landing pages or subscription apps) need to be merged together

Step 2 : Confirm your Shopify store meets the below requirements

  • On the Advanced Shopify plan or higher

  • Your Shopify plan is paid annually and you have reached out to Shopif’s support team to enable your account for Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS)

Step 3 : Install CartBob app

Experiencing any issues during installation? Please see this article for additional info.

Click on the following link: https://apps.shopify.com/cartbob. Then, click on the Add App button and proceed with installing the application.

Once finished you will be re-directed to the ShipBob login page. Enter your ShipBob User name and Password. Then, click Login and on the next page, you need to grant ShipBob access to the relevant information from Shopify. Scroll down and click Yes, Allow at the bottom of the page.

A Success message will appear on the screen. Click on the green button on the left (set rules and shipping rates in Shopify) to finish the setup.

Step 4: Set Rules and Shipping Rates (Shopify)

From your Shopify store (admin view), on the side navigation menu, at the bottom, click settings and select shipping.

On the top panel, click Manage Rates.

Scroll down to Shipping From Panel and click Carrier and App Rates. Next, edit the rates by selecting the edit button (three dots) within the CartBob app listing.

Choose Use carrier or app to calculate rates and select CartBob from the dropdown list.

Now you need to configure your shipping rates settings:

  1. Under Services you will see all available shipping methods (as they are listed on your ShipBob dashboard). Select all shipping methods you want to display at checkout.

  2. Under Future Services unmark the checkbox Automatically show new shipping services to customers when they become available.

Optional: You can now set rules to adjust these calculated rates (please note that rules are applied to All shipping methods selected in step 6):

  • Percentage:

(1) Free shipping: You can offer free shipping to your customers by setting the percentage to (-100%).

(2) Add a percentage markup to the calculated rates by simply entering the desired percentage.

  • Flat Amount

(1) You can show flat rates for all/some shipping methods by setting percentage to (-100%) and add any amount under Flat amount field.

(2) Add a fixed amount markup to the calculated rates by simply entering the amount.

Once finished, click Done.

Step 5: Adjust Backup Shipping Rates (Shopify)

In some cases (see below), CartBob couldn’t calculate real-time rates. For these scenarios, you need to set backup rates:

From your Shopify store (admin view), on the side navigation menu, at the bottom, click Settings.

Now click Shipping.

On the top panel, click Manage Rates.

Scroll down to Shipping From Panel and click Add Rate button.

Choose Set up your own rates. Enter the rate name and the shipping price.

Note: If the rate name is identical (verbatim) to the name used through CartBob, Shopify will only display the cheapest rate at checkout.

Optional: You can add conditions to these shipping rates (based on item weight/order price). Read more here.

Once finished, click Done.

Important Information and App Limitations:

In the scenarios described below, the app will not be able to retrieve and display shipping rates at checkout:

  • Orders containing 100 items or more.

  • Orders weighing more than 50 lbs.

  • If an order doesn't fit into a ShipBob standard box.

  • Items not cubiscanned.

  • If there is not enough inventory to fulfill the order

  • If the inventory is split between different FCs, meaning not enough inventory to fulfill the entire order from one FC.

  • If your items are marked as Ship in on container or Poster tubes.

In the scenarios described below, final shipping rates may change:

  • Surcharges: Price estimation does not include any surcharges or added picking fees.

  • Media Mail Shipping Option: If your shipping option is mapped to Media Mail but your items are not eligible for Media Mail shipping the price may change according to the final shipping method chosen.

  • Rules: If any items are added via rules, the price may change according to the final order weight and dimensions.

  • Custom box: If the order is shipped in a custom box, the price may change according to the final order weight and dimensions.

  • CartBob calculates the prices based on the box size assigned to the product/order combo. If the dimensions/weight of your products isn't accurate - it could affect the rates displayed.

  • The selected package is subjected to the packer's discretion.

  • Order splitting between multiple packages: If you have an "auto split" rule setup or an order needs to be shipped in multiple boxes, CartBob will not be able to push accurate rates at checkout.
