When a customer checks out, their cart information is sent to the CartBob app and it returns what you should charge for shipping. The benefit of carrier-calculated shipping rates is that you can pass on the actual cost of shipping directly to the customer for both international and domestic addresses.

Please Note! This app provides estimated rates, and the final shipping cost may vary.

Before you start the installation process, please make sure your products are synced and cubiscanned and that your packaging preferences are set for each product in ShipBob.

Additionally, to use CartBob your Shopify store must meet one of the following requirements:

  • It is on the Advanced Shopify plan or higher.
  • Your Shopify plan is paid annually. If you have an annual paid plan, please reach out to Shopify's support to enable your account for CCS (Carrier Calculated Shipping). Once enabled you can install CartBob.
  • Shopify had enabled your account for CCS (Carrier Calculated Shipping). Once enabled you can install CartBob. Shopify’s support team can set it up for you (https://help.shopify.com/en/questions) for $20/month*. Note: The fee is negotiable.

Using Subscription Apps? Please read below.

Subscription apps often create a new product on Shopify (that afterward needs to be merged on the ShipBob dash), 'the renewed product'.

When a customer tries to checkout for the first time for a subscription product (if that product hasn't been merged yet) they will not receive the real-time-rates because this item is still technically not in the ShipBob dashboard (and we don't display rates for products that we don't have inventory for when using CartBob). In that case, if you don't have backup rates, the customer will receive an error message and will not be able to checkout.

Please make sure to have backup rates (scroll down for instructions).

Step 1: Install CartBob App

Experiencing any issues during installation? Please see this article for additional info.

Click on the following link: https://apps.shopify.com/cartbob. Then, click on the Add App button.

If you are not logged in to your Shopify store, you will be prompt to do so. In the following screen click Install App.

Once finished you will be re-directed to the ShipBob login page. Enter your ShipBob User name and Password. Then, click Login.

On the next page, you need to grant ShipBob access to the relevant information from Shopify. Scroll down and click Yes, Allow at the bottom of the page.

A Success message will appear on the screen. Click on the green button on the left (set rules and shipping rates in Shopify) to finish the setup.

Step 2: Set Rules and Shipping Rates (Shopify)

From your Shopify store (admin view), on the side navigation menu, at the bottom, click Settings.

Now click Shipping.

On the top panel, click Manage Rates.

Scroll down to Shipping From Panel and click Add Rate button.

Choose Use carrier or app to calculate rates and select CartBob from the dropdown list.

Now you need to configure your shipping rates settings:

  1. Under Services you will see all available shipping methods (as they are listed on your ShipBob dashboard). Select all shipping methods you want to display at checkout.
  2. Under Future Services unmark the checkbox Automatically show new shipping services to customers when they become available.

Optional: You can now set rules to adjust these calculated rates (please note that rules are applied to All shipping methods selected in step 6):

  • Percentage:

(1) Free shipping: You can offer free shipping to your customers by setting the percentage to (-100%).

(2) Add a percentage markup to the calculated rates by simply entering the desired percentage.

  • Flat Amount

(1) You can show flat rates for all/some shipping methods by setting percentage to (-100%) and add any amount under Flat amount field.

(2) Add a fixed amount markup to the calculated rates by simply entering the amount.

Once finished, click Done.

Step 3: Adjust Backup Shipping Rates (Shopify)

In some cases (see below), CartBob couldn’t calculate real-time rates. For these scenarios, you need to set backup rates:

From your Shopify store (admin view), on the side navigation menu, at the bottom, click Settings.

Now click Shipping.

On the top panel, click Manage Rates.

Scroll down to Shipping From Panel and click Add Rate button.

Choose Set up your own rates. Enter the rate name and the shipping price.

Note: If the rate name is identical (verbatim) to the name used through CartBob, Shopify will only display the cheapest rate at checkout.

Optional: You can add conditions to these shipping rates (based on item weight/order price). Read more here.

Once finished, click Done.

Important Information and App Limitations:

In the scenarios described below, the app will not be able to retrieve and display shipping rates at checkout:

  • Orders containing 100 items or more.
  • If an order doesn't fit into a ShipBob standard box.
  • Items not cubiscanned.
  • If there is not enough inventory to fulfill the order.
  • If your items are marked as Ship in on container or Poster tubes.

In the scenarios described below, final shipping rates may change:

  • Surcharges: Price estimation does not include any surcharges or added picking fees.
  • Media Mail Shipping Option: If your shipping option is mapped to Media Mail but your items are not eligible for Media Mail shipping the price may change according to the final shipping method chosen.
  • Rules: If any items are added via rules, the price may change according to the final order weight and dimensions.
  • Custom box: If the order is shipped in a custom box, the price may change according to the final order weight and dimensions.
